It was an honour to be invited to Judge at The Northern Bullmastiff Clubs Championship show and many thanks to Gary Shirt, Debbie Lovatt and the hard working team that helped to make the experience very pleasurable. Thanks also to my ring stewards who worked hard and managed the ring well on the day.
Having not judged the breed for several years it was enjoyable to see the dogs, the Open class in dogs and bitches was particularly strong with several really good examples of the breed in each class. There were not the necessary numbers in the lower classes to make a viable assessment of improvement over the last few years but some very good individual dogs and bitches in some classes.
I found my BIS & Bitch CC in Myers & Morgan’s Ch. /It Ch Optimus Rhonnda JW. A compact 6 yr. old Fawn bitch. She excelled in every department, Strong yet feminine not the biggest yet well up to size, a pocket rocket that moved with an easy yet powerful elegance. A good head with pleasing feminine expression, strong yet graceful arched neck, leading into well placed and angled shoulders that allowed full extension at the front on the move, coupled with well angulated strongly muscled hindquarters that powered her forwards. Free from any exaggeration – a complete package. I later found that she is the Bitch CC record holder – Her 38th CC. A credit to her Breeder and owner and the breed as a whole.
Dog CC & RBIS was Myers & Morgan’s Ch. Optimus Dafydd JW. A solid good sized red male, 3 years old. Broad well-proportioned square head, correct eye and ears, good pigmentation deep strong front, well barrelled ribcage, strong short back with well-muscled powerful quarters with the correct bend of stifle and angulation which propel him across the ground in an effortless motion. Powerful and not cumbersome - A well balanced typical example of the breed.
BPIS was McGroarty’s Cane Guardiano Wot U Gonna Do Ardhub – 8 month red male, good head in the correct proportion, dark eye well set ears, well pigmented with a pleasing expression, strong front, well placed shoulder, short back leading to a well-proportioned rear. Good Bend of stifle, correct angulation. A well balanced, free moving young puppy with a lovely outline. One to watch.
Veteran Dog (3, 1 abs)
- Bown & Wilfort - Sundabish Gok WanFawn 8 year old, good head, eye and ear, good mouth, well assembled in the front, nice short body, moved very well, striding out at the front and driving from the rear. Best Veteran In show
- Spencer - Shadowguard High Octane At Islekeeper Fawn dog 8 years old, nice large head, dark eye and ear, larger dog than 1 and longer in the body but well proportioned.

Puppy Dog (2)
- McGroarty - Alonzobar Dylan Thomas Ardhub Nice brindle dog with a nice head, good mouth, dark eye and ear, nice shaped front with well-set shoulders, a little longer in the body but still in proportion. Well angulated with the correct bend of stifle, moved well.
- Parkin - Stoneglad Figaro At MarshbullRed male, Nice head but not as strong in Underjaw as 1, good front, correct short body and good at the rear moved ok.
Junior Dog (3, 2 abs)
- Myers & Morgan - Optimus Danzy Jones (Al) A Very nice young male. Great Head, dark eye & ear, correct strong at the front, compact body with good barrelling to his ribcage, well-muscled hindquarters good angulation, moved so well – gave the impression he could work all day. Top Honours will not be far away just needs a little more time. A very impressive young dog.* Reserve CC.

- Latter - Stoneglad Dakota Brindle dog, nice head but a little lacking in underjaw, good front, well boned foreleg, correct shoulders, well-proportioned in body, adequate hindquarters. Moved OK.
Post Graduate Dog (4)
- Cox - Colom OrlafRed dog, not the biggest but up to size, with a good head, good expression complemented by correct pigmentation and set of eye and ear. Good front and shoulder, nice and short body, correct hindquarters moved well.
- Todd & Smith - Pleats Surprise Attack For Delarhia Head complemented by an excellent bite, strong powerful front, short back, well angulated moved OK.

Very strong Open Dog Class – where unplaced dogs had many virtues.

- Colliass - Rosco's Sarahah Of OldwellNice young Fawn puppy, very nice head, mouth correct, head square, nice ear and eye, well balanced and moved well, had a nice outline not as mature as 1.
Puppy Bitch (6, 3 abs)
- Beal - Emsuart AphroditeRed with a nice square head, with pleasant expression. Dark eye and ear, deep front, nicely developing hindquarters moved freely.
- Hartley - Colom PiperRed, good head, nice pigmentation well set ear and dark eye, good front, not as good as 1 on the move or at the rear.

- McGroarty - Cane Guardiano Vision In My Mind ArdhubWell up to size red, nice square head, dark well set eye and ear, nice reach of neck, well placed shoulders and correct front. Strong at the rear which allowed her to really move well – striding out at the front and powering from behind. Would have challenged for higher honours except for a very strong open class.
- Oliver-Hicks - Nashbank Secret WeaponRed, similar type to 1, good head and front, compact body with good hindquarters - moved well, not quite as strong at the rear as 1.
Yearling Bitch (5, 3 abs)
- Latter - Stoneglad She's So FineFawn of a good size, Nice appealing head and expression, well set dark eye and ear. Good strong well let down front, good body, angulation and Bend of stifle OK. Moved well.
- Neesam & McGroarty - Ardhub Better Then BlackRed, nice head and strong front, well barrelled rib cage not as good at the rear as 1. Moved OK

- Lindley's – Ch Hyerdunscar The Big Tease JW IR JCh CJW 16 BW 183 year old Fawn lovely colour with a pleasing outline, good square head with a nice expression, well arched neck good front assembly which allowed her to stride out, good topline which she retained on the move, very good at the rear, well angulated with well-muscled second thigh, unlucky to meet 1 who is a little more compact but can see why she is a top winner. * Reserve CC.
